If you want to know how Charles Darwin University (CDU) can help with your career or turn your passion into a profession, then all you need to do is peek behind the curtain at this year’s Alice Springs Open Day.

Side by side with the dozens of students helping on stage and in the kitchen, next week's Open Day are the professionals, such as the stage and audio technicians, who are mostly CDU alumni.

The Open Day event on May 10 offers an opportunity for CDU alumni and students to showcase their skills from live performances on stage, assisting technical production and working in the commercial kitchen.

This year the event is proudly showcasing the incredible talent that thrives in the Red Centre from local bands to tourist attractions and highlights the range of courses that are on offer at the local campus.

All the bands that will be performing at this year’s CDU Alice Springs Open day are either current or former students, including, the Sealed Lips and The Wanted Gems.

Both bands have had quite the year, from opening for major touring artists and releasing their first music videos.

Lead singer of the Sealed Lips and Certificate IV in Music Studies student Ruby Hill said that as a musician she would not be where she is without her learnings from the courses and opportunities through CDU.

CDU Associate Vice-Chancellor Central Australia and Barkly Jodie Summers said the event is an opportunity to showcase and celebrate what CDU has to offer.

“The Open Day brings together all aspects of CDU from vocational education and training, research, hands on learning and community connection,” Ms Summers said.

“This event captures the essence of living in Alice Springs and helps us grow our skills and capabilities for the next generation of leaders.”

“As a campus we are also growing and expanding to meet the needs of our community.”

CDU Open Day is held once a year and offers students and the community the opportunity to visit the campus and explore the facilities, range of courses, and engage with local stakeholders.

The venue will be filled with workshops, a marketplace and hands on experiences including a Kids Zone.

Throughout the evening visitors will have a chance to participate in trade simulations, tour CDU’s nursing and midwifery lab and commercial kitchen just to name a few of the activities. There will also be entertainment, food vans, and displays.

CDU Alice Springs Campus Open Day is on from 4.00pm to 8.00pm on Friday, May 10 at the Alice Springs campus. See the program for more details.
